Alappuzha -Kerala - India
Alappuzha, or Alleppey as it was called, is one of the exotic backwater locales in the state of Kerala. The town draws thousands of tourists from all over world to its annual boat race. Alappuzha is also famous for its coir industry and cashew nut processing. The town is bound by Kanayannur and Kochi in north; Vaikom, Changanassery Thiruvalla, Kottayam, Adoor and taluks Kozhencherry in east; Lakshadweep islands in its west and Kannathur and Karunagappallyin in south.

The Portuguese and the Dutch made it their colony at diffent points of. However it was during Maharaja Marthandavarma’s reign that the town became a commercial centre. Alappuzha has a humid climate. However winters are relatively more pleasant and preferred time to visit this place. Historic city Alappuzha [ Old name Alleppy] has very strong roots with Christianity as one of the seven churches founded by St. Thomas, is located at Kokkomangalam or Kokkothamangalam in Cherthala since the first centaury A. D.

Modern history of city dates back to rule of Ambalappuzha or Chempakasseri [16th Centaury] and Portuguese [17th Centaury] while the emergence of this popular costal temple city, as the industrial city gets starting with construction of coir production factory in the year 1859. This city of Alappuzha is renowned for the some of most fascinating backwaters, world’s most scenic beach, Boat race [Nehru Tropphy] Churches, Temples and other architectural wonders and historic religious places.
