Bhubaneswar , Orissa - India
Bhubaneswar is the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Orissa. Ranked 5th amongst the fastest growing cities in terms of real estate, Bhubaneswar in Orissa is India’s most hallowed state capital, attracting a steady stream of tourists to its ancient temples. Together with the sacred towns of Puri and Konark, it forms the Golden Triangle, but has of late elevated its standing from being a heritage city to a bustling commercial centre.

Designed by German architect Otto H. Koenigsbarger in 1948, Bhubaneswar is 30 kms away from Orissa’s old capital Cuttack. The city has made rapid strides over the last few years, making its mark as a major centre for academics, health care and a developing IT centre. Drawing from a talent pool of 20,000 technically qualified and 50,000 general graduates in Orissa, Bhubaneswar hopes to export software worth USD 1000 million by 2011-12. In the field of education, Bhubaneswar is adding to its existing resources with an IIIT, NISER, BIT, and an IIT Kharagpur campus. The Vedanta Group is executing a world-class technical university with a provision for a lakh of students in Puri. Ayers Saint Gross from Baltimore, USA have been commissioned for this ambitious 8,000 acre institution which would open its doors to teach 95 disciplines by 2012. The Sri Sri University of Art of Living would also be coming up to accommodate 15,000 students and a faculty of 1500 on the 200-300 acre campus in Naraj, 30 kms from Bhubaneswar.
The Vision 2030 and Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) drawn up by the Department of Architecture and Regional Planning at IIT Kharagpur envisages integration of the two cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack into a 720 sq. km Urban Complex. Smaller towns in the corridor like Khurda, Jatani and Choudwar have thrived on the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack hinterland and are expected to further support the upcoming Urban Complex. Vision 2030 strives to transform Bhubaneswar and Cuttack into an integrated world-class urban centre creating opportunities for investment from domestic and overseas sources. The region’s rich architectural and natural heritage has been given its due status in the vision

The CDP aims to create prime urban centres and textile parks in the Bhubaneswar - Cuttack Urban Complex, promoting intra-regional mass transportation through circular train services, better rail and air connections, tourism through theme parks, film city projects, and travel circuits like the Palace-on-Wheels, art villages and nature trails. The CDP has recommended the development of theme oriented cities on the lines of health, education and software A Special Tourism Park will accelerate tourism in the Bhubaneswar-Puri-Konark Corridor

Connectivity to Bhubaneswar will improve once the Bhubaneswar Integrated Road Network Project initiated by the ILFS and the IDCO links Bhubaneswar and Cuttack through a bye-pass. The Bhubaneswar airport is also slated for a modernization programme, courtesy the AAI at a cost of Rs.250 crore.

Industrial infrastructure would be beefed up once the approved SEZ at the Paradeep port comes up. Posco, the South Korean steel giant has proposed a Rs.51, 000 crore investment, the largest ever FDI, for a 4004 acre steel plant in Paradeep.
