The cave shrine at Vaishno Devi, Jammu is among the most important pilgrimages in India. Set atop the Trikuta hill on the outskirts of Jammu, Vaishno Devi is a sacred pilgrimage destination where devotees come to seek blessings and make wishes.

The 98 feet cave that houses the idols of the Goddess was supposedly constructed by the legendary Pandava brothers. An interesting feature of the cave at Vaishno Devi is that the moment you enter, the cave turns into a narrow tunnel with a cold water stream (Charan Ganga) flowing through it. You wade through the narrow tunnel to reach the inner sanctum of the cave that houses the deity.

The main deity at Vaishno Devi is known as Mata Rani. Religious Hindus believe that one cannot visit Vaishno Devi unless Mata Rani wants you to.

To reach Vaishno Devi one has to drive for almost 61 kilometers from Jammu and negotiate a 13-kilometer trek on foot or on pony-back to the main shrine located uphill.

Located on an elevation of 5300 feet above the sea level, Vaishno Devi is associated with a very important Hindu legend. The Goddess had to kill a demon Bhairon Nath who was trying to prevent her from completing her penance. The Goddess blessed the demon before killing him. Thus every devotee visits the Temple of Bhairon Nath en route to the main Vaishno Devi shrine.

En route to Vaishno Devi you must tour the ISKON Temple located in Katra in Jammu, India. There are several other destinations located near Vaishno Devi. Tour Banganga, Garbh Joon and Sanji Chaat on tours to Vaishno Devi with Grace India Tours.
